How to Clean Your Gutters

The gutters are an essential part of your roofing system. If your gutters and downspouts get clogged with leaves and debris that stop water from being able to escape, it may lead to shingle saturation and deterioration. If this happens, you will need to call a company specializing in roof repair in Lake County, IL.

If the Debris is Damp

Scoop and Drop – Scoop out the gutter and drop the contents onto a plastic tarp on the ground below. Move the plastic tarp along the ground as you move the ladder. You can then dump the leaves into your compost bin.

Gutter Bucket – Get a plastic bucket with a metal handle and cut the handle at the center. Bend the handle halves into hook shapes that you can hook onto the edge of the gutter. Scoop out the debris from the gutter and empty it into the bucket. This can help you avoid a possible roof repair.

If the Debris is Dry

Gutter Bag – Get a plastic bucket and cut the handle so it can be hooked over the edges of the gutters as you work. Also, cut off the bottom of the bucket. Fasten a garbage bag around the bucket. Scoop dry leaves into the bucket, and they will funnel down into the trash bag. Make sure not to overfill the bag and make it too heavy.
